We're heading out to the airport in the early morning but before I emerge in the USA I wanted to give a quick shout out to the people at Figls in Grinzing. OMG. That pretzel alone was worth the 38 tram ride. What a beautiful spot and what a gorgeous area of Vienna! Wishing we went there sooner. Alyssa, Hugh- thank you again for the recommendation. And Alyssa, thank you (I think) for introducing me to that crazy book THE WALL. Upon completion of it, I realize that I would absolutely be worthless if left alone in the wilderness in a hunting lodge with a dog, some stray cats and cows. What would McGruber do? I do have a burning desire to learn how to milk a cow now. Do they offer that sort of thing at the Children's Home?
The students left this morning and after packing my stuff and cleaning up after their messes, I am very nostalgic for this beautiful city already. Very grateful for this opportunity but now I am ready to come home. Since I had the pig knee a second time around, I am not craving BBQ in NC as I thought I would. Strangely, it is the Whole Foods salad bar that calls me. Actually, that's not strange. Pickled cabbage has counted as my solid vegetable for several weeks now...
Evie is a champion travel eater. Yesterday, in Bratislava, we sat down with her at a McDonalds to get her a softserve vanilla icecream. She took a few bites, smiled and then said to my mom and I: "This is a nice dinner!" Yeah... but seriously, I think she gets the joy of eating out. Tonight on our way out of Figls she said "Thanks for dinner, mom". Thank you, Evie... for everything these last five weeks. And thanks to those of you who read this. Can't wait to be home! xo
Pictures to follow!
